Oh, I have had many staff members warn me (in a non-threatening, but somewhat discerning way) not to push for a smaller size soda machine in the staff lounge and have had many hide away junk food in my presence since I might snatch it up...which I...

Bandwidth is an issue, but with Bond money, we should be able to overcome this as infrastructure gets updated.

I thought one of the big reasons for blocking YouTube was more about bandwidth - if everyone starts streaming videos all the time then it will bog down our connection. If it's a bandwidth issue, limit YouTube access just to teacher computers - so ...

An FYI - There are companies that make filters for single bottles. Question: Water and juice? Still in plastic? I'd like to see our school aspire to be a "green school", if there is such a thing. Personally, I'm disgusted with all the plastic pack...

Stop Blocking Online Content?

I'm sure that many of you suffer from the same frustrations that I have - why are we blocking content-rich websites, especially YouTube?

Take the time to review a couple of articles. This one is from Edutopia, which is the George Lucas Education Foundation website. It's a good read.

The other is from THE Journal, which focuses on integrating technology effect… Continue

Recycling at Carlmont some thoughts......................

After the Recycling presentation at our last staff meeting I have been thinking more about recycling, waste, and use of resources.

I have been managing a recycling program for the last few years in the science department rooms. We have some roller bins and I have my student clerks collect… Continue

Possible Solutions to the Traffic Problem

With the new lanes on Alameda, I think a serious discussion about the traffic problem is in order. Ideally, students would take advantage of the new bike lane but lets me honest. I don't take that much advantage of it and I have a bike.

The main problem with the traffic is not so much the volume of it, it is more pedestrians crossing the road. Students trickle across the two cross walks in front of the school (1 leading to senior parking and 1 leading to Admin section) While they move at a fres… Continue

Students lie, cheat, steal, but say they're good - Yahoo! News

This article is a great read (thanks to Michelle McKee.)
"In the past year, 30 percent of U.S. high school students have stolen from a store and 64 percent have cheated on a test, according to a new, large-scale survey suggesting that Americans are too apathetic about ethical standards."
